Technology Overview:

Typical energy measurement sources are electricity, natural gas, water, oil, propane, and steam. Your facility may have an existing measurement device that provides a pulse output and you simply need a means to acquire the data. Alternatively, you need a measurement and data logging device.

Our products are ideally suited for primary metering or submetering and depending on your requirements, one or more of our product lines will help you achieve your goals for energy measurement, tracking and management.

Electric Metering: Our electric metering product is a web enabled meter that can be used for single phase or three phase applications and provides demand, consumption, load profile and time of use (TOU) data. It is a 4-quadrant meter also capable of calculating energy imported and energy exported.

Pulse Metering: Our pulse metering product (WEPM) is designed to count pulses from existing meters such as gas, steam, water, etc. It has broad applications and can be used in any environment where a network enabled logging device is required. It is a multi-channel pulse input data logger.

Communications: The communication media for all our products is via tcp/ip. They are broad-band ready and can be configured for DHCP or fixed IP. In addition, they have an embedded web server, can send emails and transfer data using ftp. These features enable low cost, real time access for applications such as submetering and remote meter reading.

Software: All our products have a built-in web server that can easily be accessed via any commercially available web browser. Majority of the data is encapsulated in XML so that it can easily be extracted and processed. However, many users are not software developers and require a supporting application that can acquire the data, display it as well as store the information. The Energy@DeskTop application has been designed for those individuals. It has extensive design features to track and monitor energy usage.

Upgrade Capability: All our products are field upgradeable. The ability to upgrade them reduces overall ownership costs and provides a means to install newer releases of firmware.

Benefits:
  • Better management of total energy usage.

  • Get details about the amount and timing of your energy use, so you can adjust accordingly and save money.

  • Advanced meter data can be used to compare costs between competing utilities and to arrange for bulk-rate purchasing.

  • Identify and implement operational strategies to control load factor, peak load requirements and reduce energy waste.

  • Understand and improve consumption patterns.

  • Measure and verify anticipated energy savings from energy efficiency modifications.

  • Secure a better pricing from the retail energy markets.

  • Highlight anomalies in electric consumption. For example, a large nighttime increase may indicate that equipment is running unnecessarily.

  • Interface the meter to a smart IP enabled thermostat for automatic demand and energy reduction. The meter pays for itself, simply by using this option.

  • Identify and assess on a real time basis the fiscal impact of the energy consumption.

  • Advanced notification via email of a higher peak demand being set.

  • Instantaneous real time access to measurement and metered data via the Internet or local network.

  • Energy suppliers can acquire faster data enabling proactive energy management. They can immediately turn this data into valuable knowledge for them and their customers and offer improved services to their commercial and industrial clients.

Data can be used to:

  1. Track in real time usage and load. Compare that to what has been scheduled and initiate any localized demand reduction during high market prices.
  2. Perform extremely accurate forecasting.
  3. Manage peaks efficiently to avoid spot market energy purchases.
  4. Perform daily reconcilement and settlement of energy usage.
  5. Quickly settle what was used versus scheduled.
  6. Reduce and limit the risk out of the energy business.
  7. Increase dollars to the bottom line.
  8. Reduce the risks in a volatile energy market.
  9. Avoid associated penalties.
  10. Create customized programs for C&I clients enabling a win-win situation.

Summary:

Beyond simply measuring electrical, gas, steam, and water consumption, metering provides an essential analytical tool for allocating cost and for energy management.

Advanced metering provides energy managers with the information they need to save energy and money as part of an effective O&M practice. Advanced metering also helps agencies identify energy savings opportunities, comply with energy reduction mandates, verify savings, and allows for participation in utility demand reduction programs.
